Terms of Service

Chipn is a group birthday-gifting service operated by Chipn LLC, an Indiana limited liability company (“Chipn,” “we,” “us”). These terms are an agreement between you and Chipn LLC and cover the Chipn website and text messages. By creating an account, contributing to a gift, or redeeming one, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we hold and is part of these terms.

Friends contribute $10 (“a chip”) toward a birthday gift. On the birthday, the recipient redeems the gift for a gift card they choose from our catalog. When you chip in, you are buying a gifting service from Chipn: we organize the gift and, when the recipient redeems, we purchase a digital gift card from our gift card partners in our own name and deliver it to the recipient. Your payment to Chipn fully settles what you owe for your chip; we do not accept money for transmission, hold funds on anyone’s behalf, or offer stored value. Chipn is not a bank, money transmitter, or wallet: contributions never sit in a balance anyone can withdraw, cash out, or redirect, and money moves only as described below.

• A chip is $10. We may add a service fee; if one applies, it is shown to you before you confirm, so the total you see when you chip in is the total you pay.
• When you chip in, we save your card and place nothing on it yet. Your card is charged only when the recipient redeems their gift. If the gift is never redeemed, you are never charged.
• Every charge is one-time. There are no subscriptions, no auto-renewals, and no recurring charges of any kind. Chipping in for someone this year does not sign you up for next year.
• If your card cannot be charged when the recipient redeems, nothing is taken from you and your chip is not part of the gift, so the gift is that much smaller. We text you so you can update your card for next time.
• If we charge your card but the gift card cannot be issued, we refund the charge to the card you paid with. Refunds only ever go back to the original payment method.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number goes to Stripe, not to Chipn’s servers.

Gifts are redeemed for digital gift cards that Chipn buys from its gift card partners and delivers to the recipient. Every card in our catalog is a store gift card, redeemable only with the brand that issued it; we do not offer prepaid debit cards, cash payouts, or anything redeemable for money. Once a recipient picks a brand, the gift card is theirs: it is subject to the issuing brand’s own terms, and we cannot exchange it, refund it, or reissue it if it is shared or lost after delivery. Claim links are private. Anyone who has a claim link can redeem the gift, so treat a claim link like cash and only share it with the intended recipient.

You must be 18 or older to create an account, store a payment method, or chip in. Recipients of a gift can be any age, but redemption requires agreeing to the issuing brand’s terms, which may have their own age requirements.

• Your account is tied to your mobile number and secured by one-time codes, not passwords. Keep your number current; anyone who controls your number can sign in.
• When you add a friend’s name, number, and birthday, you promise the information is accurate and that you know the person. Do not add strangers or numbers you are not sure about.
• We may suspend or close accounts used for fraud, harassment, or anything unlawful.

Chipn texts people only with consent: you choose texting at signup with a checkbox, gift recipients opt in on their claim page or by replying START, and replying STOP ends Chipn texts at any time (HELP gets you help). Message frequency varies and message and data rates may apply. The details, including what we hold and how to erase it, are in the Privacy Policy.

We work to deliver gifts on the birthday, at 8:00 PM in the recipient’s time zone, but we cannot guarantee a text arrives at an exact moment; carriers, networks, and wrong numbers are outside our control. Chipn is provided “as is,” and to the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid to Chipn in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

You can stop using Chipn any time; texting STOP ends messages, and the Privacy Policy describes how to delete your data entirely. We may update these terms as the product evolves. If a change matters, we will note the new effective date at the top of this page, and continuing to use Chipn after that date means you accept the change.
